Croatia 2-0 Nigeria: Modric inspires Croatia to comfortable win against Eagles

Nigeria have lost 2-0 to Croatia in the opening group D clash on Saturday night.

The breakthrough goal in Kaliningrad came after 32 minutes  and though Mario Mandzukic has tried to claim it, that will have to go down as an own goal by the unfortunate Oghenekaro Etebo.

The goal came from  a Croatia corner, delivered by Luka Modric, flicked on and Mandzukic attempted to steer the ball towards goal but it was actually going a long way wide.
That was until it deflected off Etebo - the back of his leg I think - and found the back of the net. Very unlucky for Nigeria but you have to say Croatia are deserving of their lead.

Croatia doubled their advantage in the 71 minutes when William Troost-Ekong was all over Mario Mandzukic, including arms around the neck. The ref had no choice but to award a penalty.

Luka Modric stepped up and finished pass Francis Uzoho.
