The Super Eagles were incredibly disappointing in their opening 2-0 defeat to Croatia and come up against an Iceland side who showed remarkable spirit in holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw.
Ahmed Musa scored both of their goals in a second-half performance vastly-improved from a first period in which they didn't even muster a shot on goal.
Iceland might have set up a fascinating finale but Gylfi Sigurdsson blasted a penalty over the bar and their chance passed them by.
The result certainly makes the situation in Group D very interesting. Nigeria move to second with three points, leaving Iceland and Argentina on one apiece.
