Balogun Says Brighton Can Be EPL Champions

New arrival at Brighton Hove Albion of England, Leon Aderemi Balogun has hinted that he wants to win the English Premier League with the club, as he described his new team as ‘champions,’ and is ready to help them live up to the billing.
The former Fortuna Dusseldorf, Darmstadt and SV Mainz of Germany defender, who was deflated by the Super Eagles group stage ouster from the World Cup, said he is now fully focused on the task of making a huge impression at his new base.

Balogun admitted that the Eagles’ World Cup elimination was a huge disappointment for him, but is taking the development philosophically and declared that it is time to put it all behind and seek better days of glory ahead.

The Germany-born defender, who turned 30 just a day after Nigeria crashed out of Russia 2018 with a 2-1 defeat by Argentina, said feels more matured and experienced after the World Cup experience, which he now wants to bring to bear fully on his first season at Brighton, where he believes a new spirit of champions will help him settle down quickly.

He wrote: “Better late than never, but never late is better. It’s been two weeks since this exciting journey has ended for my team and me. Reminiscing it’s still painful, I won’t lie.

“But life goes on and it gives you so many reasons to smile. Meanwhile, I turned 30; I’m about to start a new chapter in Brighton and there will be a new world champion soon making their nation proud.

“I will be forever grateful for this invaluable experience with the Super Eagles. So this is to say thank you to my team, the complete staff, to everyone who was part of this great journey and supported us also to Russia and its people for their great hospitality.

“And last, but not least, thank you Nigeria for the endless support. It’s been a great honour representing you and we hope we could make you proud.

“We will continue to strive for greatness in the future so one day we can hopefully bring a trophy back home.”
