Chelsea fans can now heave a sigh of relief as defender, David Luiz has disclosed he will be staying at the club to fight for his shirt under new boss, Maurizio Sarri.
Luiz had fallen out with departed manager, Antonio Conte and was largely confined to the bench after Conte appeared to blame him for the club’s 3-0 loss to AS Roma in the group stage of the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League.
Since the game, Luiz made only two appearances, including one start, for the West London outfit, which heightened rumours that he could seek playing time elsewhere.
But the Brazilian, whose contract expires in 2019, has decided to stay behind and fight for his place under new boss, Sarri.
Speaking to the Daily Mail about his future, Luiz said, “I came back to Chelsea to stay here.
“When I took my decision to come back here from Paris it was to win the Premier League and to do something again with Chelsea, so I am very happy here.
“I love this philosophy. We play high, with a lot of possession of the ball, in a technical way. He is trying to help us every single day to learn his philosophy quickly, to do our best for Chelsea.
“We are trying to train really hard every single day, double sessions, to learn quickly. We’re doing that every single day. A new philosophy always takes time.
“But it also depends on us, if we are dedicated every day and doing things every single day in training, especially in this beginning with these friendly games.
“We are trying to learn quickly. It depends also on us.”
The 31-year-old appeared to be working his way into the new manager’s good books as he started both of club’s pre-season games so far, winning 1-0 over Australian side Perth Glory and playing out a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Saturday.
