Breaking: Mesut Ozil inherits Jersey No 10 for Arsenal following Wilshere exit

Mesut Ozil has been handed the No 10 shirt at Arsenal for the upcoming season following the departure of Jack Wilshere.

The German midfielder has worn No 11 since joining the club in 2013 but will now switch. The announcement was made on the club'sTwitter account on Tuesday alongside the message '#M10'.

The jersey was previously occupied by Wilshere, who has now left the Emirates Stadium following the expiration of his contract.

The 29-year-old admitted his delight at sharing the same number once worn by one of his childhood icons.
He said: 'It has never been a secret how special this number is to me. My childhood idol Zinedine Zidane wore this number and it is still the most characteristic one for the playmaker position.
'I'm looking forward to putting it on for the first time at Arsenal after the summer break!'

The club have already vowed to replace shirts already purchased by supporters for the upcoming season with 'Ozil 11' printed on the back.
A host of legends have donned the No 10 shirt in the club's history, including the likes of Dutch duo Robin van Persie and Dennis Bergkamp.

Ozil is currently enjoying his summer holiday after Germany were dumped out of the World Cup in the group stages by South Korea.
