Uruguay gives updates on Cavani injury ahead of France clash

Uruguay have shed light on Edinson Cavani‘s injury as the Paris Saint-Germainstriker could feature in his nation’s World Cup quarter-final clash with France.

Cavani, 31, was a major doubt for the match on Friday at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium after he suffered a hamstring injury in the Round of 16 win over Portugal.

The injury forced the prolific goalscorer to watch on from the sidelines as his teammates trained on Tuesday ahead of the match, with Cavani the only player not able to take part in the session.

However, Uruguay have now officially confirmed he has not suffered a muscle rupture in his right calf, and he has been given the green light to take part in the match on Friday, though a starting position is unlikely at this stage.

Images emerged after the match of Cavani struggling to manoeuvre down a flight of stairs though the Uruguayan medical team have since announced that the injury is only an edema and nothing more.
