Uruguay midfielder Torreria join Arsenal

Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreria has finally joined Arsenal from Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

The 22-year-old has just returned from representing his country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has become Gunners fourth signing of the summer in a deal believed to be worth £22million.

Torreira made 71 appearances for Sampdoria and notched four goals has been handed number 11 shirt which was vacant after Mesut Ozil took Jack Wilshere’s number 10.

Manager Unai Emery told the club's official website: "In Lucas Torreira, we have signed a young player who is a very bright talent in the game. A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup.

"He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing. We welcome Lucas to Arsenal and look forward to him joining us soon for pre-season."

Torreira will not link up with Arsenal until next month to team-up with Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus, Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen and Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund.
