Diego Godin has revealed he turned down a deadline day move to Manchester United for "personal reasons".
The Atletico Madrid star was the subject of a bid from the Red Devils as the club looked to sure up their defence.
United were willing to pay the 32-year-old's €25 million buyout clause but the Uruguay international turned down their advances.
There were reports that Godin was set for a new bumper deal at the club, but the defender quashed those rumours and finally explained why he rejected United.
I have not renewed," said Godin ahead of Atletico Madrid's Super Cup clash against rivals Real Madrid.
"I have had offers, although I have decided to stay for personal reasons and I am only thinking about the final.
"But I have not extended my contract.
"I saw that news came out but I do not know where it came from."
