NAPOLI fans were left high and dry as they waited for the return of Edinson Cavani.

After a rumour circulated that the 31-year-old Uruguay striker would return from Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday, supporters flocked to the nearby airport awaiting his arrival.

But it proved false, leaving the 20 Partenopei fans sad and confused as to why the former Napoli star was nowhere to be seen.

Earlier in the day, the rumour began after posts on social media showed Cavani and his brother jumping on a plane, heading for Naples.

Cavani joined the Serie A giants Napoli from fellow Italian outfit Palermo in 2010, going onto score 104 goals in three seasons.

That lead to PSG spending £55million on the star, a French record fee until the French champions signed Neymar from Barcelona.

He has since become the club's all-time top scorer with 170 goals, while winning 16 trophies in his five seasons in Paris.
