JAPAN legend Keisuke Honda has been named manager of Cambodia while still playing for Australian side Melbourne Victory.
The 32-year-old has agreed to manage the Asian side without a salary but will get his travel expenses paid for.
Honda retired from international football following Japan's exit from the World Cup in Russia with 98 caps under his belt.
He then penned a contract with the A-League side on August 6, the sixth club of his career.
But just a week later, he agreed to take over Cambodia and was unveiled in a press conference in the capital Pnomh Penh on Sunday.
Melbourne Victory were quick to emphasise that he will not miss any A-League matches and will hold team meetings once a week via a video conference.
Speaking of appointment, Honda said: "I would like to help the Cambodian team to have one clear style of playing and promote the country to the outside world,
The former AC Milan ace will take charge of the national side in the South East Asia Suzuki Cup tournament between November 8 and December 15.
Melbourne have two fixtures scheduled during this period on November 11 and two weeks later.
Honda, who opened up a youth football academy in Phnom Penh in 2016, will have a tough job on his hands with the country ranked 166th in the world.
