Following almost two seasons staying in the shadows of the Ligue 1 club, Enyeama on Friday eventually agreed to cut ties with Lille, and the club quickly went public to eulogise and celebrate the veteran shot-stopper.
Lille noted in a public citation for Enyeama that they will remember him for his amazing performances in top-flight action with the club as well as his off-pitch conduct, especially what they tagged his lovely smiles and enthusiasm.
The former Enyimba shot-stopper has been out of the first team for a year, after falling out with the coach and officials, but opted to remain at Lille, displaying a high level of modesty during the period he was relegated to their reserves.
The 36-year-old 2013 African Cup Nation winner joined the Ligue 1 outfit in 2011 from Maccabi Tel-Aviv of Israel, but last featured for Lille on April 15, 2017.
Sadly, the beginning of his end at Lille began when he sustained an injury after making 168 appearances for the club and Nigeria’s most capped player, with 101 games, has been tipped to join AJ Auxerre before the summer transfer window closes on Friday midnight.
While confirming that they had reached an agreement to end the contract that binds them with Enyeama, Lille instantly paid tribute to the 36-year-old for his high level of service during seven years with the club.
Lille wrote: “Enyeama arrived at the Dogues in the summer of 2011 from Hapoel Tel-Aviv, playing 164 games in the Lille jersey during the 7 years spent in Lille, interspersed with a loan of one season at Maccabi Tel-Aviv (2012-2013).
With the LOSC, the Nigerian international goalkeeper (36 years) was in the 2013-2014 season, very close to breaking the record of unbeaten Ligue 1 held by Gaëtan Huard while April 23, 2016, he reached the final of the Coupe de la Ligue against Paris Saint-Germain.
“Beyond his performances, LOSC and his supporters will remember Vincent’s smile and enthusiasm. The club now wishes him the best in his future project.”
