Andres Iniesta's departure from Barcelona has ensured that the club need to select a new group of captains, with Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto named amongst the newly announced list.
Lionel Messi is the Blaugrana's primary captain, however the role of vice-captain will be shared by Pique, Roberto and Sergio Busquets.
Javier Mascherano leaving in the winter meant that a reshuffle of the leadership structure in the dressing room was always likely, although Pique may feel that his recognition is somewhat overdue after giving a decade of service to the Catalan giants.
Roberto is the last graduate from La Masia to truly make a name for himself in the senior team, although the fact he has been promoted into the leadership structure ahead of Ivan Rakitic, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Jordi Alba has come as a surprise.
Rather ironically when you consider the fact La Masia is struggling to produce talent for the first team, all four captains of the club spent time in the academy and were trained by the Blaugrana.
