Pogba reacts to penalty row with Sanchez

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has played down penalty a row with Alexis Sanchez over penalty duties during their 2-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night.

The Red Devils kicked off the new Premier League season with three points at Old Trafford with goals from World Cup winner and England left-back Luke Shaw.

But there was a moment of controversy in the match when Sanchez tried to grab the ball off France international before the penalty, though Pogba insists he was within his rights to take the spot-kick.

Asked if United have a designated penalty taker by Sky Sports, Pogba explained: "We don’t really have one. ‘Even if the manager puts names but after it’s how we feel. I decided to take it, I was as well on the names.

"But maybe in the next game I can leave it to Alexis, it’s not a problem. For me, it’s just the win that is most important.

"Pogba had a rather unusual run-up for his penalty, taking a number of small steps before finally hitting the ball, and he admits it is a technique that could backfire.

He continued: "Well, that’s my style of taking penalties. I’ve always done it. It’s long, I know it can disturb the goalkeeper, but that’s how I take it.

"The most important thing is that it goes in, because if you miss it like this then I know what I’ll hear afterwards
