Real Madrid announce Lopetegui assistant

Albert Celades will be Julen Lopetegui's new assistant coach at Real Madrid. This is what the club announced on their official website.

With his Real Madrid past, although he also played 88 matches for Barcelona too, he'll join the former Spain coach after abandoning his own role as Spain's U21 coach last month. He made this decision after Lopetegui was sacked by Luis Rubiales when Real Madrid announced that the coach had agreed to take over from Zinedine Zidane.

Despite citing Lopetegui's abrupt departure as one of the reasons he left his post, Celades did go to the World Cup alongside the coaching staff formed by then interim coach Fernando Hierro.

Celades played at Real Madrid for four seasons and made 101 appearances. He was part of the squad which won the club's ninth European Cup. Whilst at Madrid Celades also won a European Super Cup, two league titles and the Spanish Super Cup.
