Neymar might be the most expensive footballer in world football, but he has admitted that his son prefers Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe.

The 26-year-old Brazil superstar moved to the Parc des Princes for a world record 222 million euros from Barcelona in summer 2017, while Mbappe joined at the same time from Monaco on loan, with a view to a deal worth 180m euros.

Neymar lived up to his price-tag with 28 goals in 30 appearances after his season was ended prematurely by an ankle injury.

He is already registering a goal a game from 11 outings this term, but it appears that it’s not enough to win over his seven-year-old son, Davi Lucca da Silva Santos.

Neymar has revealed that his offspring is a big fan of 19-year-old Mbappe, who scored 21 goals in his debut season in Paris and then helped France win the World Cup in the summer.

“My son loves Mbappe a lot,” Neymar said. “I took him to training and he was talking about Kylian all the time.

“He wanted to take a picture to show his friends at school, he took it and was very happy.”

It’s not hard to see why Neymar Jr is a fan of Mbappe given that he has started this season like a train with 10 goals in seven outings, including a four-goal haul in 13 second-half minutes as PSG routed Lyon 5-0 on Sunday.

The makes him the youngest player to score four goals in one Ligue 1 game, while no player has scored four goals in a single league match quicker over the last 45 seasons.

And it appears that Neymar is very much alongside his son in the Mbappe fan club.

He said: “Kylian is a technical leader and the group respects him. As soon as he opens his mouth to say something we listen to him and understand him, no matter how old he is.

“He could have scored even more,” Neymar continued with a laugh. “For me it’s a phenomenon, a crack, I hope it will continue like that for several years because football will thank him.”
