Mahrez bags Manchester City's October best nominee

Riyad Mahrez has been shortlisted for his maiden Manchester City Best Player of the Month award for October.

In what started on a not-too-impressive note, City’s record signing began the month - after his cameo in their win over Hoffenheim in Germany - with a game to forget, blasting over a late penalty meant to give his side an away victory over fierce title rivals Liverpool on October 7.

The 27-year-old then picked himself up, delivering top-notch displays in subsequent games. He netted a worldie in the Citizen's big win over Burnley before laying on an assist as they defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

On Monday night, the former English Premier League Player of the Year winner scored an early winner against Tottenham Hotspur as Pep Guardiola's side reclaimed their top spot from Liverpool to cap off an awe-inspiring month.

Giving him a run for the award are mercurial midfielder David Silva and defender Aymeric Laporte.
