Barcelona have confirmed the permanent sale of Brazil international Paulinho to Guangzhou Evergrande. The former Tottenham midfielder, 30, rejoined the Chinese Super League club from Barca in the summer on loan. Guangzhou had a mandatory purchase option in the deal and have now matched Barca’s £38m buy-out clause.
Barca confirmed the news on their website, ending the chances of the Brazilian returning to the Nou Camp. “The Board of Directors has been informed that Guangzhou Evergrande has already made the purchase clause of the player Paulinho effective, in accordance with the agreement signed last July, after a transfer period.
“The Board expressed its satisfaction with the final result of this operation, which has been very beneficial for all parties.” Paulinho initially joined Guangzhou in 2015 from Tottenham before heading for the Nou Camp two years later. He spent just one season with the La Liga club before returning to China.
