The Young Men of Ukraine ended the tournament as the only side without suffering defeat in Poland. The only side that was not put to sword by the Ukrainians was the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who played a 1-1 draw when both sides clashed in the final game at the group stage. Ukraine went on to eliminate Panama, Colombia and Italy to reach the final. For Korea Republic, the country came one step up after reaching the semifinal in 1983 and finishing fourth.

The final started off on a strong suit as Korea put pressure on the Ukrainian defence as soon as possible. A Korean star was brought down in the box in the second minute and the referee awarded a penalty without hesitation. However, VAR had to be consulted to confirm that the foul was commited inside the box. After the consultation and confirmation of the foul, Lee Kagin dispatched the penalty with ease.

Ukraine equalizied in the 33rd minute through Vladyslav Supriaha after the Korean defenders failed to clear a ball crossed in from an indirect freekick.  The ball floated in from midfield was headed out by a defender before another Korean player sent it into a dangerous area where Supriaha had very little to do to tuck the ball in the bottom corner of the net.

Korea started the second half with fresh legs as coach Chung Jungyong made a substitution bringing in Won-Sang Eom at halftime. The Koreans started on the front foot and put early pressure on the Ukraine defence. While the Asians had more of the ball, they could not create clear-cut chances and they were limited to long range shots. However, it was the Europeans that went ahead when Vladyslav Supriaha doubled his tally.

The striker was put through on goal by a through pass that split the Korean defence. Another calm finish into the bottom corner left the Korean goalkeeper diving full lenght but saving nothing. The Ukraine boss made tactical decisions to protect the lead immediately bringing in Maksym Chekh to provide more depth in midfield.

Ukraine sealed their victory in the dying minutes after a brilliant solo run from Heorhiy Tsitaishvili resulted in another goal. The Dynamo Kyiv man turned the defender inside out before he struck a fierce shot that was too much for goalkeeper Gwang-Yeon to handle. The Ukrainians held on to their lead to secure their first FIFA U-20 World Cup.
