While Harry Maguire made his Manchester United debut, his brother Laurence got sent off

Harry Maguire made a big statement on Sunday afternoon.

The defender debuted for Manchester United against Chelsea, less than one week after his world-record £80 million transfer from Leicester - and he did very well.

Maguire was named Man of the Match after his side's 4-0 win at Old Trafford, making seven clearances and four interceptions, while holding an 86% pass accuracy.

Over the 90 minutes, no Chelsea player managed to dribble past him either. Virgil van Dijk, who?

It will no doubt be the first of many appearances for the Englishman, who should be very happy with himself.

But while Harry was making his dream start in front of 73,000 fans at Old Trafford, his brother was recovering from a horror performance of his own.

Laurence Maguire, who's four years younger than his sibling, was making his second appearance of the season for Conference Premier side Chesterfield.

The 22-year-old was marshaling the midfield in front of just 715 supporters at Meadow Park. At least he was before he got sent off.

On the hour mark, Maguire lunged into a two-footed tackle on Kieran Murtagh and was shown a straight red card.

He had impressed up to that point, playing a part in one of Chesterfield's goals, but he left his team short in the 2-2 draw.

Talk about contrasting weekends for the Maguire pair.

Despite the red card, Chesterfield season ticket holder Andrew Gent believes Laurence has just as much talent as his brother.

"Our Maguire has about as much talent as Harry - but it’s all about opportunity," Andrew said.

"I’m surprised, given the genetics, that a bigger club hasn’t taken a punt on him."

After his sending off, Laurence will be sitting out Chesterfield's National League fixture against Woking on Tuesday night.

His brother Harry, though, will be back in action for Man United against Wolves on Monday night.
