The Blues midfielder was forced off in the early stages of Tuesday's defeat to Valencia but has avoided any ligament damage

Chelsea have been handed a boost after scans showed that Mason Mount has not suffered a serious ankle injury.

The 20-year-old limped out of Tuesday's defeat to Valencia in the early stages with an ankle problem having come off worst in a challenge with Francis Coquelin.

But sources have told Goal that the England international does not face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, though he wil is doubtful for Sunday's clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Mount was back at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Wednesday and worked in the pool as he looks to make a swift return to full fitness.

It will come as a relief to Frank Lampard that he will not be without Mount for a substantial period, with the youngster playing a key role for the new Blues boss so far this season.

Mount joins a host of Chelsea players who are nursing minor injuries, with Antonio Rudiger (groin) and Emerson Palmieri (muscle strain) both also missing the loss to Spanish opposition.
