Mexican and super sub, Javier Hernandez has revealed that both Manchester United chief Ed Woodward and then manager David Moyes promised he would play more to convince him to stay at the club.
Hernandez was more of a frnge player during his time a Old Trafford, as he usually come off the bench.
Hernandez only started six Premier League games under Moyes.
According to him, Ferguson promised him to speak to David Moyes to give him more playing time, this came after Fergie retired.
‘Sir Alex told me that one of his, not regrets, but something he could have changed or he would change if he lived again, was playing me more,’ Hernandez told Rio Ferdinand on FIVE’s new YouTube series The Locker Room.
‘He told me he was going to speak to Moyes that there were two options. He needs to play more because he deserves it, he’s this guy, he’s a very important figure for Man United, that I was in that moment.
‘He wants to play more games, he deserves more game time, I’m going to speak with Moyes. Or, let him go. It’s his time to like fly in a good way.
‘So in that moment, Moyes and Woodward they didn’t do either of the two things. They didn’t play me that much and they didn’t even [let me leave].
‘I had an option to go after Sir Alex left and they didn’t let me, and it was then they told me, “You’re going to play”. And they didn’t play me!
‘And you saw me, I kept working, I kept doing the same stuff. We all kind of did. And we all tried to adapt to [Moyes’] idea of football and his mentality or whatever.
Hernandez was loaned to Real Madrid in 2014 and then joined Bayer Leverkusen.
‘And then in the winter, in January, I have another opportunity to go and they said no!
‘And in the end, that’s why he [Moyes] lasted the seven months he lasted because he was so stubborn. He didn’t have that adaptability and that growth and acceptance. It’s not humbleness, it’s just growth, like you need to grow to be at United.’
