Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal still active in the transfer market

Mikel Arteta seems to be changed the atmosphere at the Emirates since he was appointed. Fans have noticed improvement in the team after Arteta replaced Unai Emery who was sacked last year.

The Spanish boss guided the club to finsi5in eight position which was their worst league finish in years but they won the FA Cup to consolidate.

Mikel Arteta spoke during his media conference today, he admitted that his squad is currently unbalanced ahead of the new season.

The manager of the north London side added that there is still plenty of work to be done before the window closes on October 6.

Mikel Arteta have brought in Willian from Chelsea on a free transfer, Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille for 22m pounds.

“We are still active in the market,” he said. “We are looking at different options, with players in and out. At the moment the squad balance is not ideal and what we want to achieve. There is still some work to do but we have to bear in mind the complication of this market and the complexity as well.

“Numbers wise, some positions are overbooked and some others, in terms of specific qualities that we need, they are still not there."

Arsenal are still in the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey. The Gunners have been unable to meet Atletico 44m pounds valuation of the player.

Also, Lyon recently turned down Arsenal's bid for Houssem Aouar despite the Gunners including Matteo Guendouzi in the deal.

Arteta added: “But it’s going to be very difficult to achieve what we want in one window or two windows. It’s a process, it has to be evolving and most importantly it has to be a sustainable model that we can consistently fit in using our academy players.”
