Mikel Arteta started the youngsters in his attack against Chelsea on Boxing day, with Bukayo Saka grabbing the third goal in the 3-1 win.
Martinelli got his start after nearly nine months on the sidelines due to knee injury.
Bukayo Saka was a revelation for the Gunners last season, which also earned him the contract extension as well as jersey number 7.
While Martinelli joined from Brazilian club, Ituano last in 2018 and he scored a total of 10 goals in all competitions for the Gunners.
“I watched Martinelli at Bournemouth away last season,” Ferdinand said on his official YouTube channel. Him and Saka together, they have a link up and a relationship that’s already there that I think in years to come will be a scary relationship.
“They work so well together. And Tierney as well backing it up. But Martinelli, I have to say is going to be a tremendous footballer. Top player."
Bukayo Saka happens to be one of the Gunners academy product, as well as Smith Rowe who recently got his opportunity for his start against Chelsea.
Ferdinand who is now a football pundit believes the return of Martinelli will boost the attack of the Gunners. He added that he hopes the young Brazilian can remain fit.
He said: “He has come back into this team and he is showing what all the fuss was about before. He is going to be a huge, huge player. Massive talent. I just hope he can stay fit. Saka, him as well.”
