Man Utd set to offer Cavani new contract, Solskjaer Confirms

Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw against Leicester City at the King Power over the weekend.

The Red Devils were pecked back twice in the game as Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes scored in each half but Leicester came back twice with goals from Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy.

With the Premier League fixtures coming tick and fast, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer boys are back this mid week. Manchester United will host Wolverhampton on Tuesday at the Old Trafford stadium.

Manchester United boss, Solskjaer has revealed that his 33 years old striker might be staying longer than expected at the club.

United signed Edinson Cavani as a free agent when he was released by PSG in the summer, he Uruguay international came off the bench to provide the assist for Fernandes against Leicester City.

Just so you know, Cavani signed a one-year deal with the option for a further 12 months extension.

But it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy with the striker progress at the club.

“At the moment it looks like he has a few years left in him so I wouldn’t say anything else,” Solskjaer said. “He has made a great impact when he has come here. Let’s focus on improving everyone but he has a few years left in him.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went ahead to hint that Cavani might be given more game time. The former Napoli star is yet to start a Premier League game so far.


Solskjaer said: “He is definitely a starter. You don’t classify a player of that quality as anything else. We have plenty of starters, more than 11. That is the thing when you are at Man United,” Solskjaer explained.

“You should believe and trust in yourself. I trust him. We have good competition for places. He will probably start more games than he will not start."

Cavani was handed the iconic jersey number 7 when he signed for the club. Manchester United Jersey number 7 has been worn by legendary players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona.

But Solskjaer believes Cavani can cope with the pressure of wearing the jersey number.

According to Ole: “When you think of the history of his career and the experience he has had, his personality from the chat I had with him and when I watched him before, it wasn’t in doubt that he could handle the No 7 shirt.

"He is so meticulous and professional, his habits and everything about him, shows why he has had the career he has. Even at the age he is now he is one of the fittest players we have got.”
