Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was missing from the squad which made Mikel Arteta include Eddie Nketiah instead.
Fans of the Gunners were wondering what happened to their captain, while some suggested he was injured.
But the manager of the club have given update on the reason Aubameyang missed the game at the St. Mary's stadium.
According to Mikel Arteta, Aubameyang wasn't included in the team due to personal reason. Although, Arteta didn't give a detail reason but added that the player was permitted to home on Friday to attend to the matter.
Arteta told reporters: "He had a personal matter in the last few hours and we had to send him back."
Southampton have eliminated Arsenal from the FA Cup following a narrow escape from the Saints.
Gabriel Magalhães put the ball into his own net in the first half and Southampton held on to ensure they sealed their ticket into the fifth round where they will face Wolverhampton.
Meanwhile, fans will be hoping that Aubameyang is available for their Tuesday game against Southampton at the St Mary's stadium.
