Tuchel ready to work with struggling Timo Werner

Chelsea's new boss, Thomas Tuchel says he's ready to work on the confidence of Germany striker. 

The former RB Leipzig forward has been struggling to settle in Chelsea since he moved to the Premier League. 

Timo Werner is a proven striker and was one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe last season after he guided RB Leipzig to finish in second behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. 

Chelsea were attracted to Werner and moved for his signature. The Blues completed the deal for £47.5 million ($64m). 

 

But Tuchel believes the striker who is currently on a goal drought has been under a lot of pressure. He said he decided not to use him on Wednesday night draw with Wolverhampton because of his body language. 

"Why I did not use him on Wednesday, I see his face is a bit closed and the weight is on his shoulders," Tuchel told reporters. 

"He cares a lot and that shows he has a fantastic character. Sometimes as a striker, it does not help if you care a lot. Sometimes as a striker, it’s better to not care at all. But he’s not that guy. He cares and he’s not happy with himself and with the way things went lately."

Chelsea have also suffered a deep in form,  they are currently in 10th position on the Premier League table. 

But the former Paris Saint-Germain boss says he is willing to rebuild Timo Werner confidence in front of goal. 

He added: "Right now it’s important to rebuild his trust in himself and to find a smile on his face and stop doubting too much. It’s my job to do this, to help him with this and then to find also a position where we can use his strengths."
