Arteta gives update on Partey and Kieran Tierney injuries ahead of Benfica clash

Arsenal bounced back to winning ways after their 4-2 victory against Leeds United at the Emirates stadium on Sunday evening.

Prior to the game, Mikel Arteta side have lost two games back to back, against Wolverhampton and Aston Villa in the last few weeks. 

The Gunners needed the result as the hope to seal a top six finish at the end of the season. 

Arsenal raced to a three goals lead when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted twice and Hector Bellerin fired a near post finish to make it 3-0 going into the first half.

Aubameyang who has been struggling for goals this campaign finally completed his hat trick with a header after Emile Smith-Rowe crossed the ball. 

Despite Leeds pulling two goals back, the Gunners managed the game to secure three points. 

After the game, Mikel Arteta provided updates on Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey ahead of Arsenal's Europa League clash with Benfica on Thursday.

Both Tierney and Partey have been injured and have been out action for awhile. 

Tierney has not played since the Gunners' 3-0 win over Newcastle last month. The Scotland international has missed six games in all competitions. 

While Thomas Partey was forced off with a hamstring injury heading into the final quarter-hour against Aston Villa two weeks ago. 

While addressing the fitness of both players, Arteta believes it's only Tierney whi has a chance to face Benfica on Thursday. 

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arteta said: "It seems unlikely at the moment, but I don’t know. Probably if there is one player who has got a bigger chance, it’s Kieran.

"Probably in the next few days he can start to do some parts with the team. But I don’t know how he is going to evolve when he gets a little bit closer to training with the group."
