Gladbach confirmed the appointment in a statement on Monday by stating Rose had triggered the €5m release clause on his contract ahead of his contract expiration next year.
The 44-year-old will succeed Edin Terzic, who has been managing at Signal Iduna Park since their former manager was sacked earlier in the season.
“We have held a lot of talks in recent weeks to discuss Marco’s future. Unfortunately, he has opted to trigger a clause in his contract and move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer,” according to director Max Eberl.
