The Argentine coach, whose five-and-a-half-year spell as Spurs manager came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night, has already been replaced at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho took charge of his first training session on Wednesday morning and the players were filmed being put through their paces by the revered Portuguese tactician and his newly-assembled coaching staff.

Despite the fact Pochettino has been paid a huge compensation package - around the £12.5 million mark, according to reports - the fact he’s been unceremoniously sacked following a surprisingly poor start to the 2019/20 campaign will have hurt the 47-year-old.

Within hours of his dismissal, Mourinho had been appointed, meaning Pochettino was forced to leave a note to say thank you to his squad.

The same newspaper claims the note contained the following message: “Sorry we cannot come to say goodbye, you are always in our hearts.”

The Sun understand that Pochettino was sacked so suddenly that he didn’t even have time to say goodbye to his players in person
