Jesse Lingard blamed Manchester United for their "false promises" during his spell at Old Trafford stadium.
The English international happens to be an academy graduate of Manchester United but he wasn't able to reach the peak of his career at United.
In advance of his return to Old Trafford, Jesse Lingard slams Manchester United.
Manchester United will host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford stadium on Tuesday night in their match day 17 Premier League clash.
Jesse Lingard has blasted Manchester United, saying that the organization's leadership made "false promises" and that he was never given a convincing justification for why he was kept out.
After completing their academy program, the 30-year-old midfielder made 232 appearances for United, but he struggled to get playing time at Old Trafford in his later years there. He only made four appearances in his last season.
Lingard made an impression while on loan at West Ham during the second part of the 2020–21 season, but when he returned to United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick ignored him.
I don’t know why I wasn’t playing,” Lingard told The Telegraph. “I don’t know what the problem was, whether it was politics or whatever. I still haven’t got an answer. I’d rather that someone had told me, ‘This is why you’re not playing’, out of respect for me being there so long, but I never got that.
“It was false promises. I was training hard and I was sharp, I was ready. So this is a chance to say my goodbyes because I never really got that. It will be an enjoyable occasion but we want to win the game. You can’t get caught up too much in it emotionally.”
Before playing for newly promoted Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, Lingard claims he still feels misled by his treatment at United.
If you recall that Lingard joined Forest at the beginning of this season on a free transfer after his contract expired with Manchester United.
