A Nigerian tech professional has shared his experience dealing with a US-based client who failed to pay for his services.
In a post on his X handle, he explained that he had built a website for the woman, who then refused to pay his $600 fee despite profiting from the site. Enitan stated that after repeatedly asking for payment for six months with no response, he deleted the website and demanded $6000 when she came back pleading.
He wrote: “After building a Shopify website, this US-based client kept postponing my payment. She was making sales and I was seeing everything in the backend. After six months of begging for $600 with no response, I deleted the website. Almost immediately she came threatening and racially broke shaming me.”
He continued, “After a few days, she apologized and tried to trick me into restoring the website for my pay. I told her the fee was now $6000 or she could find another developer. I left a ‘This owner refused to pay her developer for 6 months’ message on her website. Legend has it she’s still looking for a developer.”
