Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has confirmed that star player João Félix will be leaving the club, with Chelsea set to complete the deal.
When asked about Félix's exclusion from the squad, Simeone said: "João Félix out tonight? Soon you will be informed, it's about a transfer."
Later, when questioned further, Simeone added: "I've already been informed about that."
Last night, Atlético Madrid played thrilling 2-2 draw against Villarreal, with goals from M. Llorente (20') and an own goal by Koke (37') cancelled out by strikes from A. Danjuma (18') and A. Sørloth (45'+5').
Despite the draw, Félix's absence was a major talking point, with Simeone's comments all but confirming the player's departure.
Félix's departure comes after a breakdown in his working relationship with Simeone, with the two no longer on speaking terms.
The Portuguese forward previously spent time on loan at Barcelona last season and had a brief loan spell at Chelsea during the 2022-23 season, making this transfer a familiar yet exciting new chapter in his career.
