England's World Cup tournament has officially begun after the Three Lions touched down in St Petersburg ahead of the start of the World Cup and headed to their team hotel in nearby Repino.

Manager Gareth Southgate and captain Harry Kane emerged from the Boeing 757-23N and onto the tarmac as they prepared to pass through security at the Pulkovo International Airport.

Kane took the time to take a selfie with an airport worker near the runway as England began adjusting to their new surroundings ahead of their Group G opener on Monday evening.

The armed guards stood watch as players, including Henderson, Rose and Vardy, made the short walk from the airport exit over to the doors of the England team bus.

And waiting outside the hotel were dozens more armed Russian police dressed in military-style uniforms to ensure England arrived at their base for the group stages without incident.

Police lined the road into the leafy Russian village near the Gulf of Finland and stood guard as they waited for England's team bus to arrive at the Country Club ForRestMix hotel.

The ForRestMix hotel, based in the nearby village of Repino, will be England's base for the duration of the group stages when they face Tunisia on Monday, Panama on June 24 and Belgium on June 28
