Barcelona defender Yerry Mina’s 74th minute header bundled Senegal, the only remaining African side, out of the world cup. Mina rose high to bury a corner into the bottom corner. Colombia survived an onslaught from Mane, Niang and Sarr to ensure the scoreline remain the same at full time.

The results mean that Japan will qualify as the second placed team on fair play because they have two yellow cards less than the African side.

VAR was a key talking point in the match as it denied Sadio Mane a penalty. The Liverpool forward went down after a tackle from Davidson Sanchez, the referee pointed to the spot but a review said there was no tackle and therefore no penalty.

James Rodriguez will have another chance to play in the tournament after walking off injured in the first half.
