Why I pulled off my shirt against Tottenham - Torreira

Lucas Torreira reveals he took off his Arsenal shirt after scoring against Spurs because of an agreement he had with Robert Pires.

The midfielder played all 90 minutes of Sunday's blockbuster North London Derby and scored the Gunners' fourth and final goal.

After finding the back of the net, the Uruguayan ripped off his shirt in celebration. He was of course booked by Mike Dean.

Speaking to RedeTV, Torreira revealed: "During the week we had been talking a lot, during the training sessions.

"And I told Robert Pires that if I scored a goal I would take the shirt off.

"Surely he will remember it, because one of the days during the week I told him that.

"And well, when I scored a lot of things passed through my head.

"A lot of happiness. So much sacrifice, so much work. And it’s good that all of this was reflected in the pitch."

The Uruguayan has highly impressed since securing a £25million move from Sampdoria in the summer, and has established himself as a regular starter under Unai Emery.
