Disgraced NFL star Greg Hardy has UFC win overturned for using inhaler – but says it’s all official’s fault

GREG HARDY had his win against Ben Sosoli at UFC Boston overturned after the disgraced NFL star used an inhaler in between rounds.

The 31-year-old American went the full three round distance for the first time in his seven-fight career and initially moved to 6-1.

However, the points win was later overturned by the The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission (MSAC) after they insisted Hardy’s use of an inhaler in between rounds two and three was not permitted.

As a result the heavyweight saw his victory wiped off, but complained afterwards that he WAS given permission to use the inhaler..
Hardy said: “I was in the ring, me and my coach asked the commission if it would be OK to use my inhaler and they said yes, so I took it

“I’m still (a) new guy in this sport. I did what I do in every situation — I asked permission, I got permission and I did what I was told.”

Despite the no-contest, Hardy will not run into any doping problems with the UFC’s anti-doping partner United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

According to UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky, the inhaler likely contained albuterol, which is allowed in the promotion’s anti-doping program under a certain dose.

Per USADA, athletes cannot exceed 1600 micrograms over 24 hours in divided doses or 800 micrograms over 12 hours starting from any dose.

Every inhaler lists its dosage per puff, which can be used to calculate how many puffs per day athletes can have legally, though it cannot be used during a fight.

The inhaler dispute comes after Hardy was arrested for cocaine possession in Dallas, Texas, in 2016, seven months removed from his amateur MMA debut.

After the loss on Friday night Dana White slammed his close pal and UFC legend Din Thomas, trainer of Hardy, for their lack of knowledge on the rules.

White said: “It was crazy. So everybody started screaming at me ‘He used an inhaler! He used an inhaler!’.

“I couldn’t even grasp it, like ‘What do you mean he used an inhaler?’.

“So, when the fight was over I went over to Din Thomas and said ‘What the f*** are you doing?’

“I said 'How are you using an inhaler?’ and he said ‘The Commissioner said we could’. What commissioner? When? How?

“So then, you know, my team started to jump into it and try to figure out what happened and what was going on.

“If you watch it, you can understand how it happened. But, you know he asked the guy and he said ‘Is it medically approved’ and he said ‘It is USADA approved’.

“So because he put it down on hit sheet that he was using an inhaler, and they knew he used an inhaler.

“I don’t even know what to say. First of all, Din Thomas. I mean come on Din, you’ve been in this game forever. You know what I mean?

“His corner, they got to know that you can’t use an inhaler in the corner. They should know that.”

Former Dallas Cowboys Defensive end Hardy started his MMA career in 2016 as an amateur after leaving his NFL career behind.

The Tennessee native was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend in 2014 and was sentenced to 18 months probation as well as being suspended for ten games by the NFL.
