There are suggestions that Oliver Giroud might not get regular playing time under Frank Lampard this season following the new signings Chelsea have made in the summer window.
Recall that Frank Lampard has brought in Kai Havertz from Bayern Leverkusen, Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax all in the attack.
Although, this isn't the first time that Oliver Giroud had to battle for a space in the starting eleven.
Last season, Tammy Abraham started the season with top form, but suffered goal drought at a point, and the French man stepped up.
The former Arsenal forward has revealed that he nearly joined London rival Tottenham Hotspur in the winter transfer window.
"During the last three days of the transfer window, I was in the coach's office to find a solution. I was hoping Chelsea would find a replacement for me," he told So Foot.
"For my part, it was not the solutions that were lacking: I almost signed for Lazio, Inter… I was even so determined to leave that I even almost signed for Tottenham!"
Recall that Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in 2018, scoring 10 goals in 25 total appearances for the Blues.
The French man added that he nearly moved to the UK in 2010 after he broke into the scene at Ligue 2 Tours.
He went to sign for Montpellier became a key player for the Ligue 1 club. He scored 39 goals in 85 matches for Montpellier. This made Arsene Wenger move to sign him.
"I had proposals from Middlesbrough and Celtic [in 2010]," Giroud said, "but my agents advised me to leave an imprint in France first."
Giroud enjoyed good spell at Arsenal with 105 goals in 253 total appearances for the Gunners.
He also spoke on how he joined Arsenal in 2012 following the Euro 2012.
"I left [Montpellier] for only €12 million (£11m/$14m) to go to Arsenal, which is not a lot," he said. "I was at Euro 2012, my wife brought me the contract in her suitcases… A great moment."
