Ezri Konsa was the hero as Aston Villa opened their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Sheffield United, who open a top-flight campaign with back-to-back defeats for the first time since 1973-74.

Konsa headed home what proved to be the winner in the 63rd minute after United had captain John Egan sent off in the first half, while Emiliano Martinez produced debut heroics to keep out John Lundstram's penalty.
