Finally Frank Lampard picks His Number one between Kepa and Mendy

Frank Lampard is yet to settle with his starting eleven at the following his signings in the transfer window.

Likes of Timo Werner joined from RB Leipzig, Hakim Ziyech from Ajax,  Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, Kai Havertz from Bayern Leverkusen have all played their part in different match days for the Blues but they are yet to gel as a team.

Fans of the club are anxious for positive results, following their club's draw against Southampton over the weekend. 

Chelsea threw away three goals lead as they allowed Southampton come back into the game.


But one thing certain at the moment is that Frank Lampard has gotten his number one goalkeeper. It appears the English boss seems settled with Mendy.

Recall that Edouard Mendy joined frkm Rennes to give competition for inconsistent Kepa Arrizabalaga and ageing Willy Caballero.

The Senegalese missed the weekend game against Southampton sie to due but recovered in time to face Sevilla on Tuesday night.


Mendy kept a clean sheet against Julen Lopetegui’s side who dominated ball possession in the Group E contest.


It was Mendy's second clean sheet in all competition, after he kept clean sheet in Chelsea's 3-0 win against on his Premier League debut weeks ago.

Frank Lampard has hailed Mendy's composure as he was called to action I several part of the game at Stamford Bridge against Europa League Champions.

“In the three games Edouard Mendy has played since he has been here he has played very well,” the Chelsea legend told the club website.

“He made a good save today and that is two clean sheets. When he came in I said he will be great for competition.

“We knew his qualities and he has shown them, so at the moment he is first choice but that is always up for grabs and that is why you have competition.”

Meanwhile, Lampard has continued to back Thaigo Silva despite fans yet to see the Brazilian settle the defense.

Silva joined as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer window.

“Thiago Silva was very good [on Tuesday],” he said.

“He brought both quality and experience as we hoped and he affects others around him. He was a big plus and a part in keeping the clean sheet.

“I will manage his workload this season. I have a very close relationship with him already and I remember being in that position towards the back end of my career so I will be very aware of his maintenance, training and game selection, to try to have him at his optimum.” 

Chelsea will now travel to Old Trafford this weekend to face Manchester United in their next Premier League match.
