The Reds have confirmed on Monday February 1st 2021, that Joel Matip is set to miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
According to reports gathered, Matip was the only first team defender available has now suffered an ankle ligament injury.
This has brought the end to his season as Liverpool continue to struggle at the back due to their injured defenders.
Just so you know, Matip was injured in the Liverpool's 3-1 win against Tottenham last week. This came during a challenge on Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min in the first half of the game.
Liverpool are already without likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Fabinho due to long-term injuries.
Speaking about Matip injury, Jürgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “Unfortunately, we found out now after everybody looked at it that Joel will be out for the rest of the season.
“But he will be ready for the start of the next pre-season and finally everything will be sorted.”
Meanwhile, the former Borussia Dortmund boss, Klopp was able to bring on board two new defenders on transfer deadline day. Before the January window came to a close last night, Liverpool completed deals of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak.
