The Saints then suffered a blow in the 10th minute when they were reduced to 10 men after Jannik Vestergaard was shown a straight red card for tackling Vardy from behind.
But it was Southampton that took the lead from Ward-Prowse from the spot in the second half though after Iheanacho blocked a shot with his arm.
Iheanacho later made up for that just seven minutes later as his cross that set up Evans' equaliser.
