Chelsea youngster has revealed why he wears jersey number 29. Kai Havertz who was born on 11 June 1999 (age 22 years) is an attacking footballer who plays for Germany national team and Premier League club, Chelsea FC.
The 22 years old is one of the most sort after stars in Europe. He completed £70m move to Chelsea from Bayern Leverkusen last year.
Recall that the former Bayern Leverkusen star scored the only goal in their 1-0 win over Manchester City in UEFA Champions League final. He made 27 appearances and scored four times for Chelsea in the Premier League last season.
While speaking to The Athletic, he said he chose the jersey number because he fell in love with the number while he was playing video games with his younger brother.
"We always made ourselves in the game. I had No.10, golden shoes and things like that. My brother always put No.29 on his shirt."
The Blues midfielder who joined Bayern Leverkusen in 2016 added that he picked the jersey number 29 at the Bundesliga side because it was vacant.
Kai Havertz is currently in training with Chelsea ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal next Wednesday.
He added: "When I came to the professional game and Leverkusen asked me what number I wanted to have, I asked them which numbers were free. When they said 29, I said I’d take it because of my brother.
"Sometimes it’s lucky for me, sometimes not, but I like the number and now I think everybody knows me for it."
Thomas Tuchel’s side will kick off their 2021-22 Premier League season against Crystal Palace on August 14.
