Sergio Aguero confirms broken rib in car crash, set to miss 11 games

Sergio Aguero has spoken for the first time since the car accident in Amsterdam that has left him nursing a broken rib.

The Manchester City striker is facing two months on the sidelines after being involved the accident on Thursday night, when the taxi in which he was travelling collided with a lampost.

Aguero spoke to Radio Metro de Argentina from his hospital bed and said: "The taxi driver did not see the curve and skid. And when he skidded, we hit him with the pole.

"I broke my rib, now I'm resting. It hurts me badly. I'll be discharged in a little while."

Aguero has since flown back to Manchester and will be assessed by the club's doctors.

The 29-year-old is set to miss 11 games during his enforced lay-off including City's trip to Chelsea tomorrow, as well as two World Cup qualifiers with Argentina.

A statement from City read: "Sergio Aguero will be assessed by Club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday.

"The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries."

Aguero was in Amsterdam to watch a concert by Colombian singer Maluma when the taxi in which he was travelling to the airport careered off the road.

Reports have suggested Aguero only escaped even more serious injury because the striker was wearing a seatbelt.

Aguero's former club Independiente wished their former striker a swift recovery with a post on the club's official twitter account.

Independiente tweeted: "Strength and prompt recovery. Everyone at Independiente is with you in this difficult moment."
