Jack Wilshere was ready to make a late entrance against Watford on Saturday but Wenger opted to bring on Rob Holding.
Jack who is yet to feature in the league for Arsenal this season was set to replace Alex Iwobi.
But, Rob Holding came on for Laurent Koscielny instead. Although Koscielny looked like he was injured.
After the game, Arsene Wenger explained his decision, he said:
“I wanted to take Iwobi off and they told me that Koscielny had to come off because of his calf,” said the boss.
“When I wanted to bring Jack on for Iwobi, it was our last sub and Koscielny could not go on, so I had to change Koscielny and bring a centre back on. That’s what happened.”
The Gunners fell to another defeat in the league after Tory Denney and late Tom Cleverly goal cancelled Per Mertesacker first half header.
