Nigeria have made a heartwarming gesture to Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme by calling him up as the 24th player in their World Cup squad.
The 31-year-old stopper, who has not played a game this season due to his ongoing treatment for acute leukaemia, has been registered as an extra player for the Super Eagles by head coach Gernot Rohr.
"Carl Ikeme will be our 24th player to the World Cup," Birmingham live quotes Rohr as saying.
Nigeria have included an extra player on their roster in previous editions of the World Cup, as Clemens Westerhof took Tijani Babangida to USA ‘94 and Chief Onigbinde Onigbinde had Peter Osaze Odemwingie at Korea/Japan 2002.

Nigeria are in Group D alongside Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in the in the tournament in Russia this summer.
