Liverpool defender Joel Matip will be out for up to six weeks after suffering a fractured collarbone.
Matip, 27, sustained the injury in the closing moments of Tuesday night’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Napoli .
He was taken to hospital following the game and after further assessment it was deemed surgery was needed.
Matip had started the Reds’ last three matches but now faces a spell on the sidelines.
The news adds to Liverpool’s injury crisis in defence, with Joe Gomez also ruled out until 2019.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a major doubt for the huge clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
