Antoine Griezmann was serenaded by the France squad as he celebrated his birthday with cake in Chisinau on Thursday.

The World Cup winners arrived in the Moldovan capital and began their final preparations ahead of their first Euro 2020qualifier against the eastern European nation.

Griezmann's birthday was also on the day of their travels but Didier Deschamps' side made sure to find time for the Atletico forward, later sharing their celebrations on Instagram.

The 28-year-old was given a large white cake complete with the French national team logo and 'magic' candles.

Despite his best attempts, Griezmann appeared unable to stem the paraffin-fuelled flow of his raging pyrotechnic accompaniments.

His team-mates also gave him a relatively enthusiastic rendition of happy birthday after sharing dinner together.

The birthday celebrations followed his team's departure from France ahead of their first Euro 2020 qualifier against Moldova at the Zimbru Stadium.

On the three-hour flight to Chisinau the players kept themselves busy, with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba challenging Kurt Zouma at a game of Uno.

As the squad arrived, they were greeted by a small welcoming party and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris sampled the local cuisine.

Later that evening the squad were given a first glimpse of the Moldovan national stadium, which is a capacity of 10,400.

The small stands are dwarfed by enormous sky-rise Soviet-era blocks of flats - which will likely offer some of the best views of Friday night's clash.

France take on Moldova at 7.45pm (GMT), before returning to Paris to face Iceland on Monday.
