Cameroon's players were left in tears during their clash with England at the Women's World Cup.

The Lionesses were the favourites going into the last 16 clash in France.

Phil Neville's side took the lead early on as Steph Houghton fired home from an indirect free-kick after a backpass.

Ellen White then doubled the lead before the break although the goal was initially flagged for offside.

The decision was sent to VAR and the goal was eventually given with replays showing White was onside.

Cameroon's players were furious though, suggesting Nikita Parris - who was not interfering - was stood in an offside position.

England's opponents then appeared to protest against the goal and refused to resume play for several minutes at the end of the first half.

Alain Djeumfa also expressed his anger at the decision before the kick-off was finally taken and the half-time whistle blown.

The Cameroon players were spoken to by a FIFA official over their conduct at half-time - with BBC presenter Gabby Logan claiming they had accused FIFA of racism.

But the controversy didn't stop there as VAR later ruled out a Cameroon goal as they looked to have found their way back into the match.

A long ball forward was crossed on to Ajara Nchout, who fired into the top corner.

The Cameroon players celebrated but the decision again went to VAR and was ruled out with replays showing just how tight the call was.

Nchout was reduced to tears at the decision and was consoled by manager Djeumfa while her teammates pointed at the big screen and remonstrated with the officials.

Captain Gabrielle Onguene eventually got her team together as Phil Neville spoke to Djeumfa.

Play eventually got underway and England took the game beyond Cameroon as Alex Greenwood finished from a well-worked corner.
