Rob Holding Hands Arsenal a Boost After Returning From 9 Months Injury Layoff

Arsenal coach Unai Emery has been handed a boost following the return of England international Rob Holding this summer.

The 23-year-old last represented the Gunners in December 2018 after suffering a terrible knee injury in their match against Manchester United.

After diagnosis, the defender was said to have ruptured the cruciate ligament in his knee which kept him out of action for about nine months.

He has however returned to training having participated in preseason training and will ease back into action with the team's U23.

According to SunSport, Holding was involved in his first full training session in the north Londoners' US tour on July 16 after a long spell on the sidelines.

Reports from the Gunners camp claims the defender was initially scheduled to miss the start of the new season, but a special rehabilitation programme in America brought his return forward.

Meanwhile, he might get a chance to play in his side's Premier League opener against Newcastle United - although he's unlikely to be risked so soon.

The Emirates Stadium outfit made the announcement of Holding's return on their Twitter handle, saying: "What a sight! @RobHolding95 back on the field with our under-23s earlier today."

"So good to see you back out there, Rob."
