Jamie Carragher has backed Liverpool star James Milner to emulate Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.
Ryan Giggs, who is now the coach of Wales national team, made almost 1,000 appearances in all competitions for United, retiring at the age of 40 having won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
While James Milner has more than 500 appearances in the Premier League for the likes of Leeds United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and now Liverpool.
‘Forget the age, your numbers will be determined by your fitness levels,’ former Reds captain Carragher told Sky Sports.
‘He doesn’t need to be at the top of the group, he just needs to not be at the bottom of the group.
‘It still feels like he has a while to go. I think it could be very similar to Ryan Giggs – maybe not quite like that – but I think he could play until his late 30s and do something really special in terms of Premier League appearances.
‘He could push a lot of boundaries in terms of how far he goes because he’s looked after himself so well. I see him going on for a lot longer.’
